Our mission is to help you trim down your AWS bills. We passionately believe in eliminating waste, not only to save money but also to save energy and make more efficient use of the world’s limited resources. Further, we want to do this in the simplest, most elegant way possible.
This means an easy account set-up, followed by little to no interaction with our platform. We integrate with your workspace by either emailing you or sending a slack message about your servers rather than requiring you to learn and use new software.
We also believe in transparency. The price of our service is not hidden behind some 'Contact Us' button. We are upfront about what our service will cost you. Check for price information here. We are a small, honest business trying to help your engineers focus on what really matters.
The current product checks for idle ec2 & RDS instances, elastic IPs and lambda functions. Soon we will allow for more customization of the check period and the definition of “idle”. Currently we check every 24 hours and define “idle” as:
Beyond this, we want to find other idle or underutilized AWS resources, including load balancers, other databases -- anything that you are getting charged for but not getting value from. There’s absolutely no reason to be paying Amazon for something if you’re not even using it.
We also want to evolve with our customers by listening to your feedback. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch: masha@trimcloud.io!
We started organically and serendipitously. I was doing consulting work for Matrix Operations, a high-frequency trading firm in New York. This company was often spinning up many ec2 instances in many different regions in order to run simulations or other one-off jobs. As you may know, with AWS there is no single dashboard where you can view all of your servers. Each region is treated as an independent dashboard. Because of this, Matrix Operations was often forgetting to terminate instances in some regions. Of course they had scripts to automatically terminate, but sometimes those scripts would crash and instances would be stranded, costing money and doing nothing.
I had the straightforward idea to write another idle-checking script. This turned out to be so useful and save so much money for the company that I asked for their permission to turn it into a product that all companies could benefit from. With their blessing, I built and launched trimcloud.io, with Matrix as my first customer.
Hi there,
I am so excited that you are checking out and considering trimcloud for managing your unused AWS resources. I am Masha, the founder of trimcloud. A little about me: I am a scientist and a software engineer. I spent many years doing neuroscience research before I fell in love with software development. I am eager to learn about what you love or think can be improved here. trimcloud is evolving and getting better and smarter every day. Any feedback or feature requests you may have will definitely be addressed. It will take time as we are a very small team. Please be patient with us / me, as this is a one woman show! I am working on trimcloud without any funding or outside support, just loads of enthusiasm and ambition :-).
Cheers,
Masha Ikromova (Founder & CEO)
